The Airfield

ELITE FOOTBALL CENTRE

Son Bonet Aerodrome (Spanish: Aeródromo de Son Bonet) (ICAO: LESB) was the first civil airfield on Mallorca.

Originally built during the 1920s as an alternative to the military airport at Son Sant Joan, with the first flight in 1921 and the first commercial flight in 1927. A flying school established in 1935.

During 1946, Son Bonet was equipped as a customs airport and opened to domestic and international traffic in July. Over the following decade, the airport traffic increased, which facilitated modernisation and improvements to be made. However, the airport could neither accommodate larger aircraft nor could the runway be extended, so these services were transferred to the island’s main airport in July 1959. Today it is primarily used for general and leisure aviation, with approximately 75,000 flights per year.

As a Sports Centre, Son Bonet was used from the 1980’s until the early 2000’s as RCD Mallorca training ground, and some preseasons staying at the residence.

With an ambitious project to bring Son Bonet back to its previous activity, Son Bonet Football Centre will be soon home for many professional and amateur football teams, and become home for an international football academy.

Equipped with latest innovation and technology applied to sports facilities, Son Bonet will have both natural grass and latest generation turf pitches, as well as a professional Gym, Spa and other facilities to meet all requirements by a football team.
